Saints' Alvin Kamara gets trade update involving Packers, Bengals

Alvin Kamara seems to want to remain with the New Orleans Saints.

Whether the Saints can keep him around is an entirely different story, though, after they signed Travis Etienne in free agency.

Kamara's contract probably at least needs to be reworked, or he might have to be traded.

"The Saints' beloved veteran turns 31 in July and posted career lows in touches (164) and scrimmage yards (657) in 2025," ESPN's Dan Graziano writes in a new article on Thursday in which he discusses possible candidates to be moved by the trade deadline. "New Orleans doled out big money to Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency and has a crowded RB room that also includes Kendre Miller, Audric Estime and Ty Chandler. Kamara has one year left on his contract, which has been amended so many times it's difficult to truly assess the size of the dead money burden New Orleans will take on whenever he's gone."

Even if the Saints want to move Kamara, what team has room for him both in their offense and on their salary cap sheet?

Graziano mentions both the Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Bengals.

"It's hard to see a team offering too much for Kamara at this point in his career," Graziano writes. "But if he lands in the right kind of backfield and the right kind of role, he could have a chance to go out with a bang. Maybe a place such as Cincinnati or Green Bay has a way to use him to help the offense."

Kamara still has a quality skillset, albeit a lessened one of the version of him that was one of the top RBs in the NFL.

Even the Saints could still make use of it, just in a much more limited way than they have for most of his career.

Kamara probably doesn't want to leave, but he'd also likely appreciate a quality workload with a quality team, so these rumors won't be going away anytime soon.
