Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson only had a year remaining on his contract. After the 2026 NFL season, he was set to become a free agent. Well, Adam Schefter of espn.com reported major news on Thursday morning on Twitter and said, “ESPN sources: Green Bay WR Christian Watson and the Packers reached agreement today on a four-year, $110.5 million contract extension that includes a $31 million signing bonus.” This is no doubt a major overpay for Green Bay.

He has not even recorded over 1,000 yards in his NFL career for at least a season and yet Green Bay wanted to give him this crazy contract. During the 2025 NFL season, he caught 35 passes for 611 yards receiving and six touchdowns, along with averaging 17.5 yards per reception. Watson was also targeted 55 times and also rushed for three yards on one carry.

This isn’t hyperbole to say this is the worst contract ever given out in the NFL. Plenty of players underperform after they get paid, but produced to achieve the contract.

It is not shocking that a lot of Chicago Bears fans are trolling the Packers organization for giving Watson that crazy contract extension. He has been injury prone during his NFL career. Green Bay is no doubt taking a major gamble with this contract extension. The fact that they gave him this extension over Romeo Doubs this offseason is certainly a choice. If Watson continues to get injured or if this team underperforms, a lot of blame is going to go on general manager Brian Gutekunst.
