Arsenal completely powerless as Bayern hijack deal for Germany international

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Nathaniel Brown have suffered a significant setback after reports in Germany claimed the defender has reached an agreement in principle with Bayern Munich.

The Gunners have been linked with the Eintracht Frankfurt star in recent weeks as they continue assessing options to strengthen their defensive depth ahead of the new season.

However, Bayern now appear to have moved into pole position.

According to Sky Germany, Brown has agreed personal terms with the Bundesliga champions and is keen to complete a move to Munich this summer.

The report claims Bayern have offered the 22-year-old a contract running until 2031 following positive discussions over his role in Vincent Kompany’s squad.

While an agreement between the player and Bayern is now in place, the transfer is not yet complete.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich still need to agree on a fee, with the Bundesliga side reportedly demanding up to €60 million for one of their most valuable assets.

That valuation could yet prove a stumbling block, although Bayern have already opened talks with Frankfurt in an effort to push the deal forward.

Brown’s preference for a move to Munich represents a blow to Arsenal, who had been credited with strong interest in the Germany international.

The versatile defender has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s standout young full-backs and was recently included in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad for this summer’s World Cup.

His ability to operate in multiple positions is believed to have attracted Arsenal’s attention.

Primarily a left-back, Brown is also capable of playing further forward on the flank and has featured on the opposite side when required.

That versatility fits the profile of player Mikel Arteta has often favoured during his time in North London.

Brown enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 campaign with Eintracht Frankfurt, making 33 Bundesliga appearances and contributing four goals and four assists.

His performances helped establish him as one of the most sought-after young defenders in Germany and inevitably attracted attention from several top clubs across Europe.

Arsenal already have options at left-back through Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie, but Brown was viewed as a player capable of adding further quality and flexibility to the squad.

For now, though, Bayern appear to hold a decisive advantage.

Unless negotiations between Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt break down over the transfer fee, Arsenal may have to look elsewhere in their search for defensive reinforcements this summer.
