Manchester City can challenge Barcelona and Atlético Madrid for Chelsea‘s Marc Cucurella this summer.
The Spain international joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2022, after Manchester City missed out.
In May 2022, the left-back said “you can’t say no” to the Citizens but still didn’t manage to secure a move to the Etihad.
Last year, the Chelsea star expressed disappointment over his failed move to Manchester City.
At that time, he said: “They were on fire and were one of the best teams in the world. I absolutely wanted to go. When they come like they did, and when Guardiola asks you to, you’ll go on your knees, if necessary.”
Manchester City in mix for Chelsea star
Pep Guardiola has left the club, but the FA Cup winners are again looking at the 27-year-old for this summer.
That’s according to Thursday’s edition of La Vanguardia, who mention Manchester City and Atlético Madri in a report focusing on Barcelona.
Marc Cucurella graduated from the Catalan club’s academy but couldn’t cement a place in their first team. He always felt there’s no possibility to return to the Camp Nou until last month.
That’s when Barca sporting director Deco made contact to find out his willingness to return to the club. Both the official and Hansi Flick highly rate the Chelsea player.
The defender, for his part, believes his time at Stamford Bridge ‘has come to an end’.
Barcelona, Manchester City and Los Rojiblancos have all expressed interest and are aware of Chelsea’s situation.
The west London club are also aware of the trio’s interest, their approaches and the player’s desire to leave. There’s been no negotiations for Cucurella, valued between €40-50m.
Flick’s side will only make advances if Alejandro Balde were to be sold. Manchester City and Diego Simeone’s side don’t seem to have any conditions to make advances.
Maresca could give Manchester City an edge
Pep Guardiola’s exit forces the Etihad club to look for a new manager. The latest claims are backing Enzo Maresca to replace the Spaniard.
Maresca has been without a job since leaving Chelsea in January and Marc Cucurella was a starter under his orders.
The Italian, if appointed, could give Manchester City an edge over the La Liga duo, in the race to sign the fullback.
