Charles Oakley remains unable to attend Knicks home games at Madison Square Garden despite efforts from Adam Silver and Michael Jordan to resolve his dispute with James Dolan.
New York Knicks legend Charles Oakley will not be able to attend his team's NBA Finals games against the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden.
Ahead of Game 1, which the Knicks won 105-95 in San Antonio, NBA commissioner Adam Silver revealed that both he and Michael Jordan tried to help resolve the long-running dispute between Oakley and Knicks owner James Dolan.
"Adam Silver says both he and Michael Jordan tried their best to broker peace between Charles Oakley and James Dolan, but neither was successful. Oakley has been at Knicks road games during this playoff run but has not been at The Garden," NBA reporter Rachel Nichols reported.
Oakley, one of the most beloved players in Knicks history, has remained away from Madison Square Garden since his highly publicized fallout with Dolan in 2017.
The dispute began after an incident during a Knicks game, when Oakley was removed from the arena following a confrontation near his seat. The situation escalated quickly, with security getting involved before Oakley was arrested and later charged with assault and trespassing.
Shortly after the incident, Oakley was banned from Madison Square Garden. Dolan later said publicly that the ban was "not necessarily a lifetime ban," but the relationship between the two sides has never been repaired.
While Oakley has attended several Knicks road playoff games, he has not returned to The Garden. As a result, he is expected to remain absent from New York's home games during the NBA Finals.
