Fresh off a monumental season in which they won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final, Arsenal are looking to strengthen their squad further this summer at the behest of manager Mikel Arteta.
According to reports from Brazil, the Gunners have made an initial enquiry to FC Porto over the availability of highly rated winger William Gomes.
The 20-year-old Brazilian prodigy has taken Europe by storm since moving from Sao Paulo to Portugal in early 2025. This past season, Gomes was instrumental in guiding Porto back to the top of the Primeira Liga.
Operating mainly as an explosive, inverted left-winger, his blend of dynamic dribbling and clinical finishing yielded 13 goals in 46 appearances, firmly establishing him as one of the most exciting young talents in world football.
For Arsenal, the pursuit of Gomes signals a clear intent to reinforce their left-flank options. His ability to drive into the box from the touchline, beat defenders in one-on-one situations, and unleash powerful strikes with his favoured right foot would provide a different stylistic profile from Arsenal’s current options.
However, a deal for the ‘incredible’ Brazilian will not come cheap. Gomes is under contract with the Portuguese giants until June 2029 and has a substantial €80m (£69.3m) release clause.
Furthermore, the Gunners face stiff competition. Atletico Madrid are pushing hard for his signature, while Premier League rivals Manchester United are actively monitoring the situation.
Despite the fierce competition and hefty price tag, Arsenal’s early enquiry shows that the North London club are prepared to be active in the market once again.
