The latest Premier League transfer news as Manchester City, Everton and Newcastle plot summer moves
The 2025/26 Premier League season is done and dusted, and there’s little time to reflect on what was a vintage year of top tier football in England, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup just around the corner. Thomas Tuchel’s controversial Three Lions squad are already in North America going through their paces in the scorching heat, ahead of warm-up games against New Zealand and Costa Rica.

Meanwhile, the summer transfer window is set to be a particularly busy one, with a number of Premier League sides requiring major upgrades over the coming weeks. Tottenham in particular look set to be busy, with moves for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi expected, along with a potential swoop for Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke.
We’ll kick off today’s gossip round-up at the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City are licking their wounds after losing out on the Premier League title to Arsenal. That said, they still managed to pull off the domestic cup double, and it will be fascinating to see how they get on following Pep Guardiola’s exit. Ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is widely expected to bag the top job.
City are expected to go big again in the upcoming transfer window, and Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson looks to be top of their wish list. According to Team Talk, the Citizens haven’t been put off after their first offer for the England star was turned down, and they remain in talks with the Tricky Trees ahead of a second big-money bid.
It’s suggested that Anderson has already agreed personal terms with City, but the hurdle standing in the way of a deal being completed is Forest’s rumoured asking price - they’re said to want more than the £105m Arsenal paid West Ham for Declan Rice in 2023. Despite this, City are still expected to push on with negotiations, and are confident of sealing the deal.
The 3AM Verdict: Is a transfer saga revolving around one of England’s key players really what we need heading into the World Cup? The report does note that a deal could be done within seven days, which should hopefully mean it’s all wrapped up before the big kick-off. We can’t see anyone pipping City to the post, given the huge sums of money involved in the deal. It’s a matter of when, rather than if.
Everton eye risky striker transfer
Over to Merseyside next, where Everton are looking to strengthen their squad after finishing 13th in the Premier League last season - the club’s fifth bottom-half finish in a row. Finding a reliable goal-scorer is top of their list of summer priorities, and they now been linked with a forward with 79 Premier League goals to his name: Gabriel Jesus.
According to Football Insider, the Toffees are looking to sign the Arsenal forward, but aren’t prepared to meet the north London club’s rumoured £20m asking price. The ex-Man City striker has endured a brutal run of injury problems since joining the Gunners in 2022, and the Toffees are said to believe this should be reflected in Jesus’ price tag.
The 3AM Verdict: With Jesus’ hefty wages also likely to be an issue, Everton shouldn’t pursue this deal any further. The 29-year-old still has plenty to give, but the Toffees aren’t in a position to risk wasting money on a player who could miss much of the campaign with a fresh injury. With the likes of Juventus and AC Milan also interested, Jesus should be able to find a new club without too much trouble.
Newcastle United ‘make bid’ for new winger
Finishing us off nicely, we’ll head up to the North East, where Newcastle United are scrambling to find a replacement for Anthony Gordon, who sealed a surprise move to Barcelona late last month. Given the £70m fee the Magpies brought in, they’ll have plenty to spend, and reports from Spain (via Sport Witness) suggest they’ve found their man.
However, things are complicated by the fact that Real Madrid have a buy-back clause in place for their former player, and could potentially exercise that to scupper Newcastle’s hopes of sealing the deal. That said, Los Blancos already have superstar Vinicius Jr on the left wing, and wouldn’t be able to offer the game-time that Eddie Howe’s side could.
The 3AM Verdict: This deal really looks to be gaining some momentum. Munoz is a seriously talented player, to the extent that he managed to book his place in Spain’s World Cup squad. It looks like the Magpies are ready to pull the trigger, and at a maximum of £35m, his relatively low cost signing would allow the club to stretch their transfer budget further.
