ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Broncos wide receiver Jaylen Waddle didn’t make a splash play during Thursday’s practice. But he’s hard to miss; even when he doesn’t find himself as a target from quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham or Sam Ehlinger, his speed and quickness is palpable as the Broncos begin to scratch the surface of what their big-ticket acquisition could provide to the offense.
“He’s had a good week,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said. “He’s someone who picks things up real quick. He had a real good day yesterday. You can just feel his instincts, his quickness and his ability to really to not only run fast but stop fast. So he’s doing well.”

And the answer to the question of whether he’s an outside receiver or slot receiver appears to be, “A little of Column A, and a little of Column B,” in the parlance of Grandpa Simpson.
“You could start slot to outside, or go outside to slot, just pick,” Payton said. There’s a crystal-clear vision prior to the trade as to, ‘All right, this is what we see, this is where he plays and these are the things that we feel like he’s exceptional at.’ Then, ‘Let’s apply them into what we’re doing.’”
The added bonus to Waddle’s presence is how he’s testing the defense.
That’s one of the big things that jumped out from Thursday’s OTA. Watch the video for more on the day, including the competition at edge rusher and how Jonah Elliss continues to fit in that mix.
