Longtime sports personality Skip Bayless is never one to shy away from offering an opinion online, but it’s safe to say that sometimes he should wait a bit before dishing a take. He certainly learned that on Wednesday night.
During the third quarter of Wednesday’s NBA Finals Game 1 showdown between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs, Bayless fired off a post on X criticizing the way the Knicks were performing by saying that they simply were not ready for the high-profile environment.
However, Bayless was immediately proven wrong.
Skip Bayless Criticizes Knicks
The Knicks were struggling throughout a large chunk of Wednesday night’s game in San Antonio, trailing the Spurs by as much as 14 points during the game. These struggles stretched into the third quarter, sparking Bayless to send a critical post on X.
“Finals lights are just too bright for these Knicks tonight,” Bayless wrote in a post on X.
Of course, it was not long before Bayless was proven immediately incorrect.
Knicks Mounted Comeback
Almost immediately after Bayless made his post, the Knicks mounted a massive comeback. Not only did the team pull even from the double-digit deficit, but they actually took a double-digit lead of their own late in the fourth quarter to ultimately win the game by a final score of 105-95.
The Knicks were led by superstar Jalen Brunson in the second half as he scored 19 points after halftime including an eye-popping 13 points in the fourth quarter alone.
“I think it starts with my confidence. It comes with my work ethic,” Brunson said of how he was able to elevate late in the game. “Most importantly, knowing we’re on the road and knowing my teammates have my back, I think that’s the biggest thing in an environment like this — the trust they have in me and the trust I have in them, it’s got us to this point.”
Brunson ultimately finished the game with 30 points, leading the Knicks to victory.
Bayless Was Wrong
Obviously, Bayless was completely wrong in his statement as he spoke too soon, and fans had a lot to say about it on social media.
“And he wonders why he’s not on tv anymore smh,” one fan wrote in a post on X.
“Never seen milk expire so quickly,” someone else added.
“You were saying?” another user wrote.
“I for one respect skips commitment to never being right about anything,” someone else joked.
“Every one of this guy’s hot takes is ice cold,” another fan added.
It’s worth noting that Bayless previously predicted that the Knicks would win the series in six games, so the win actually helped his long-term prediction.
