The New York Knicks witnessed Jalen Brunson overcome on-court injuries to seal Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Yet fans watched two heated moments involving him: One featuring referee Scott Foster and another after the game with fans.

Brunson got asked about the latter confrontation Thursday. He chose to drop this seven-word response.

Fans sitting courtside appeared to be joshing with Brunson after the Knicks' 105-95 road win over the San Antonio Spurs. The league launched an investigation into the interaction per Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

“An NBA spokesman also said the league was looking into whether a fan inappropriately taunted Brunson about ‘flopping.' The spokesman said the alleged taunts may not have been verbal, but rather a gesture,” Vardon wrote. “The ABC broadcast of Game 1 showed Brunson in a heated exchange with a fan near the court with about 20 seconds left, and Brunson appeared to re-engage with him after the game was over.”

That wasn't the only notable fan controversy during the 2026 finals opener. A young fan rushed to the floor in an attempt to get a selfie with Victor Wembanyama during the game. That fan eventually became reprimanded by security. The same fan received a lifetime ban from the NBA Thursday.

Brunson still continues to grow his legend with the Knicks. He dropped 30 points after overcoming a brief knee and ankle ailment. Brunson's heroics inside Frost Bank Center Arena sparked “team of destiny” conversations involving the Knicks. Now New York can take a stunning 2-0 series lead by winning Friday.
