Former NFL star Tony Romo competes in Fort Wayne golf tournament

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - Four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo brought his competitive spirit to Fort Wayne for a Thursday morning golf tournament.

The former Dallas Cowboys star played the Orchard Ridge Golf Course in an attempt to qualify for the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship.

Romo retired from pro football in 2017 before beginning a broadcasting career with CBS Sports.

He has been no stranger to the world of golf, having won a celebrity tournament and periodically competing in amateur events.

Romo’s golf career brought him to Northeast Indiana this summer.

Romo says he chose Fort Wayne’s qualifier because of its proximity to his Wisconsin hometown and a recent recommendation he got about of this specific course.

The 46-year-old multi-sport athlete shot three-over-par on Thursday, which wasn’t enough to ultimately qualify.

Jacob Settles from Winchester, Kentucky, [won the qualifier](https://iga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/iga26/event/iga2669/contest/1/leaderboard.htm) with a -7.

Seven other golfers qualified, with two more finishing the day as alternates for the Final Qualifying.

Romo says he has other tournaments lined up in the not-so-distant future.
