Spurs fan reportedly facing criminal charges after running onto court for Victor Wembanyama selfie

More details about the consequences for the San Antonio Spurs fan who ran onto the court during Game 1 of the New York Knicks and Spurs NBA Finals are coming to light.

A Spurs fan went viral for running onto the court during Game 1 of the NBA Finals, as they tried to get a selfie with Victor Wembanyama. Security quickly ran onto the court during the fourth quarter with 6 minutes and 30 seconds left and escorted him out. Now, it's possible that the fan will be facing criminal charges following the viral pursuit.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office told TMZ there will be two charges for the fan. The first charge, “Disrupting Meeting or Procession, was committed by “intentionally disrupting a lawful gathering, namely, the Spurs basketball game, through physical interference.”

The second charge, “Criminal Trespass, was committed by “entering property, specifically the basketball court, without the effective consent of the owner, despite having notice that entry onto the court was prohibited,” the statement continued.

The statement added, “The entry was made by the intrusion of his entire body into the restricted area.”

While it's possible that the fan will be facing criminal charges, they will already have consequences enforced by the NBA. The league put out a statement on Thursday, June 4 stating, “The individual who entered the court area during Game 1 of The Finals was arrested & will be banned for life from all NBA arenas. A second individual will also receive a lifetime ban for his role in the incident.”

As for as Wembanyama is concerned, he was shocked that the incident occurred.

“I've never been in that situation. I didn't know how to act. It really surprised almost as much as that time where a bat crashed the court,” Wembanyama said after the game.

Criminal charges have not yet been confirmed at this time. Since the fan is a minor, the fan's identity was not released.

The Knicks won 105-95 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals and will play Game 2 at the Frost Bank Arena on June 5. Tip-off set to 8:30 pm ET.
