Need to know
Erling Haaland hit the headlines on Thursday night after a Real Madrid presidential candidate claimed he would sign the Manchester City forward if elected.
Haaland's future is a topic of debate again
Here's everything you need to know about Erling Haaland's Manchester City future in the wake of Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme'sstunning claim:
In an appearance on Spanish television programme El Hormiguero, Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme claimed he would bring Erling Haaland to the Bernabeu if he were elected.
Riquelme held up a Real Madrid shirt with Haaland's name and the No.9 printed on the back, claiming that there was a release clause in Haaland's contract that he would be willing to trigger.
Riquelme also claimed he would bring Haaland's teammate Rodri to the Bernabeu.
City immediately hit back, releasing a statement saying there was "no chance of this happening". They also said claims of a release clause were false and that they would be "considering legal action for the use of our player image in this context." Read the full story here.
Haaland only signed a new deal at City back in January 2025.
What's more, of course, the deal Haaland signed was a 10-year contract, meaning he is contracted at the Etihad until the summer of 2034.
It remains to be seen what further fallout there will be from this stunt as City consider legal action, but as far as City are concerned there is no chance of Haaland leaving the club.
