Celtic youngster set for Liverpool move after 'turning down' new contract

The 16-year-old centre-back reportedly turned down a new contract offer from the club.

Celtic had been keen to keep hold of the academy product, but the Daily Record reports he has declined their offer.

The defender now looks set to move to Liverpool this summer, choosing the Anfield side over several other Premier League options, including Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.

Celtic will receive training compensation, though the figure will be reduced due to the cross-border move.

Jikiemi will follow in the footsteps of Ben Gannon-Doak, who left Celtic for Liverpool as a teenager.

Other talented youngsters such as Conall Glancy and Daniel Cummings have also left for English clubs.
