Mikel Arteta celebrates winning the Premier League with Arsenal

Arsenal are losing no time in getting their transfer dealings underway this summer.

The Gunners' 2025/26 season only concluded last Saturday, when they endured a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Despite having already secured the Premier League title, that disappointment in Budapest would have stung Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who wasted no time in making clear during his post-match press conference that the north Londoners must demonstrate serious ambition in the forthcoming transfer window.

Josh Kroenke, son of Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, has hinted that sporting director Andrea Berta could be given another £250million war chest for new signings, equalling the club's record spending spree last summer. And it seems they have already started plotting for the 2026/27 season. Here's all the latest news from the Emirates Stadium.

Green light given on Tonali

Former Gunners defender Nacho Monreal reckons Arsenal will boast the finest midfield on the planet if they land Sandro Tonali from Newcastle this summer.

Tonali, 26, surfaced as a transfer target during the January window after Berta was alerted to the prospect of securing his signature, reports the Mirror.

The Italian's representative is believed to have made contact with Berta, as Tonali is keen to secure Champions League football next season.

The Magpies' inability to qualify for European competition, coupled with suggestions that Arsenal are hunting for a new central midfielder, mean Tonali has resurfaced as a possible summer target.

He cost Newcastle £55million when he signed from AC Milan, yet reports in Tutto Mercato in Italy suggest his club want nearly double that - £100m - to sell him this summer.

Despite Arteta already boasting a stellar midfield foundation featuring Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and Myles Lewis-Skelly, Monreal backs the pursuit of Tonali, insisting that his arrival would render the Gunners' midfield superior to any other side.

"If Arsenal sign Tonali, obviously they will have the best midfield in the world," said Monreal, who made 251 appearances for the Gunners between 2013 and 2019. "But they signed Zubimendi last year for a lot of money, so it is a difficult one.

"To have both Tonali, Zubimendi, and Rice would be a lot, so I can only imagine that they would have to sell either Zubimendi or Declan Rice if they really want Tonali. In my opinion, they already have the two best defensive midfielders in the world."

Shock Trent Alexander-Arnold move

Trent Alexander-Arnold of Real Madrid looks on

Teddy Sheringham has suggested Trent Alexander-Arnold as a potential acquisition for Arsenal.

Nobody would have envisaged the former Liverpool defender as a Gunners player when he departed the Reds to join Real Madrid last summer as a free agent.

But the 27-year-old suffered a deeply frustrating debut season in Spain, finding himself in and out of the first team through injury setbacks and poor form.

Now, the prospects of the England international - who failed to make Thomas Tuchel's squad for the World Cup - look even more bleak heading into the new campaign, with the imminent arrival of Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries.

Jose Mourinho's appointment as boss also bodes poorly for Alexander-Arnold, given the Portuguese tactician's emphasis on defensive solidity - an area where he is widely regarded as vulnerable.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

That renders him an improbable candidate for Arteta's summer shopping list. However, former Tottenham striker Sheringham believes the Gunners could compensate for Alexander-Arnold's defensive weaknesses through their excellent organisation, while he might provide the spark they have lacked recently.

Speaking to BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest World Cup odds, Sheringham said: "Could we see Trent Alexander-Arnold back in the Premier League? Liverpool fans might not want him back so it does narrow down where he could go, doesn't it.

"He doesn't immediately strike me as an Arsenal player, to be fair. I think they're too strong and resilient and work as a proper back four unit. But they could make it work for him.

"Even if you have an organised back four with fantastic players, if you leave him on his own Trent looks all over the place, but that was true of Harry Maguire when Manchester United weren't playing well. If you did that to Tony Adams or Steve Buce they'd have looked shocking.

"If you put Trent in an organised, structured back four, and they work as a unit, that's what playing in a team like Arsenal is all about. If someone worked with Trent along those lines, coached him to get in the right position at the right times, then I'm sure he could improve in that position to give Arsenal that extra dimension that he brings to a team."
