Liverpool ‘prioritising’ right-back signing after Conor Bradley injury

Liverpool are set to sign a new right-back this summer with no timeframe on Conor Bradley‘s recovery and concerns over Jeremie Frimpong‘s performances.

It will be another big summer transfer window for Liverpool as they reshape the squad after a number of high-profile departures and a new head coach in Andoni Iraola.

Among the priorities is right-back, with Bradley still recovering from the serious knee injury he suffered in January and Frimpong not showing anywhere near the form needed to cement himself as first choice since joining from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Guardian‘s Andy Hunter reports that signing two wingers and a right-back are seen as “more pressing requirements.”

Frimpong is viewed as “more of a backup option,” while This Is Anfield understands Bradley’s injury is potentially more severe than has been reported so far.

Liverpool held an interest in Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries while Arne Slot was in charge but the Netherlands international is now set to join Real Madrid.

Atalanta’s Marco Palestra has been touted as another option along with Feyenoord’s Givairo Read and Tottenham‘s Archie Gray but no concrete links have emerged as of yet.

There had been suggestions Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza could be of interest ahead of his contract expiry this summer, while Newcastle‘s Tino Livramento and Tottenham‘s Pedro Porro will enter the final two years of their deals and could be attainable.

Iraola is set to assess the options available to him after his appointment was confirmed on Thursday, though there are few viable right-backs in the academy.

Calvin Ramsay is expected to leave Liverpool ahead of his 23rd birthday next month and Isaac Mabaya, 21, has been plagued with injuries including a serious Achilles issue which ended his loan spell with Wigan last season.

Speaking in his arrival interview, Iraola said: “We’ve been here three seasons playing a lot of times against Liverpool and there are players we already know.

“But there are other players probably that haven’t had the minutes, have played for the development squad, have been on loan.

“Those training [sessions in pre-season], those minutes, will be very valuable for those of us who make decisions.”
