Sheffield United hold interest in £11m Everton man who is heading to the World Cup - report

Sheffield United credited with interest in World Cup-bound Everton defender Nathan Patterson

Sheffield United are reportedly interested in World Cup-bound Everton defender Nathan Patterson.

The 24-year-old was an £11m signing for the Toffees back in 2022, when he was prised from Scottish heavyweights Rangers.

It has not been plain-sailing in the Premier League for Patterson, who has struggled with injuries and managed just 67 appearances across four years.

Despite his lack of action in England’s top flight, Patterson is currently gearing up to represent Scotland in this summer’s World Cup.

Sheffield United linked with Everton’s Nathan Patterson

According to The Star, Sheffield United are still admirers of the right-back having taken a look at him in the last winter transfer window.

Sheffield United reportedly felt Hoever did not push Seriki hard enough, but Patterson’s profile would suggest he could be a tough competititor.

There has also been talk of an emotional homecoming for Kyle Walker, the jet-heeled right-back who Sheffield United nurtured in their academy before he became a household name.

However, a report has suggested the Burnley veteran would have to take a substantial wage cut to grease the wheels for a Bramall Lane reunion.

Nathan Patterson possibility

Patterson made just seven Premier League appearances last season, therefore it is not difficult to imagine Everton being open to doing business.

However, with Toffees legend Seamus Coleman moving on, there could be concerns about depth in the right-back department.

Sheffield United could perhaps do with Scotland enduring an underwhelming World Cup campaign, as it would be far from ideal to see Patterson’s value driven up. The defender is under contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium until next summer.
