Barcola is one of five forwards that the Gunners have shortlisted as potential targets, with manager Mikel Arteta keen on adding more firepower up front.

Why another transfer involving PSG could help Arsenal

It is believed that the Ligue One champions are very interested in recruiting Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.

If the Ivorian international does make the switch to the Parc des Princes, it would greatly increase the chances of Barcola being available.

Considering Diomande could cost around €100m (£87m), though, Barcola may be sold for a similar amount.

Who are the alternatives to Barcola?

A lot still depends on Arteta and whether he wants a winger or another striker. If he goes for the former, the club could pursue either Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers or Ajax’s Mika Godts if Barcola is not an option.

In terms of strikers, the priorities are said to be Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez and Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi.

Ironically, PSG are keen on Alvarez and Kroupi too, but when you are an elite club, it is not at all surprising that you end up pursuing the same targets.

For now, it looks like the smart money is on Barcola leaving PSG, but a lot could change over the course of the summer.
