Barcelona could play two friendlies against Birmingham City this summer as part of their pre-season plans.
Journalist Nil Sola and Cadena SER report on the plans today, which have now been finalised by the Catalan giants.
Birmingham vs Barcelona confirmed
Sport Witness covered reports last month about Barcelona’s plans to travel to England and take on Birmingham as part of their pre-season preparations.
Cadena SER now provide the details. They explain that Barcelona will begin their training camp at St George’s Park on July 27th. They will stay there until August 3rd.
The group will actually return to pre-season on July 13th, when they will undergoing the usual medical and physical tests. Pre-season will begin at the Ciutat Esportiva before the pre-season training camp in England.
The outlet report that the team is expected to play at least one friendly during their stay in England. Nil Sola then provides more information. He confirms the plan for the trip to England, before then offering details of the friendly.
According to his information, the plan is to play a match against Birmingham on Friday the 31st and then another one, to be determined, behind closed doors. It’s not clear if he means another friendly against Birmingham or another team entirely.
Which Barcelona players will feature?
Either way, it’s an exciting summer friendly for Birmingham as they plan for another season in the Championship.
Earlier reports indicated that they’ve been chosen thanks to their proximity to St George’s Park.
What Barcelona stars they get to see, though, remains to be seen. With the World Cup this summer, the Barcelona squad will likely be missing several of their star men depending on how they do at the summer tournament.
Sport Witness already explained who might be available for the trip and who may be missing with that in mind. Either way, with plans now confirmed, it’s time to get excited.
