Tottenham making plans behind the scenes for Liverpool man – De Zerbi wants him for rebuild

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a move for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo this summer, with Roberto de Zerbi hoping to lure him to London.

Soccer News report that following Arne Slot’s dismissal at Anfield, Gakpo could be the next Dutchman to depart the club.

Tottenham plans

According to their information, Roberto de Zerbi is hoping to convince Cody Gakpo to make the move from Liverpool this summer.

Tottenham are currently working behind the scenes on a possible deal, drawing up a plan to convince the forward and Liverpool in the summer transfer window. Spurs are not the only suitors, with several other clubs in England, Spain and Germany reportedly interested.

Tottenham reportedly see Gakpo as a reinforcement who can kickstart their rebuilding process under De Zerbi this summer. The Liverpool forward is not the only Dutch player on their list either.

Spurs have already made a move for Brighton’s Jan Paul Van Hecke as well. That offer has been rejected, but Tottenham won’t be giving up on that potential deal.

With Xavi Simons and Micky van de Ven also already at the club, Gakpo would find a substantial amount of his Netherlands international teammates waiting for him.

Liverpool demands

The question is whether Liverpool want to sell. The 27-year-old has been a regular since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in 2023.

Since then, he’s scored 50 goals and registered 23 assists in 180 games for the club.

This season, though, was one of his most difficult to date. He managed just nine goals and six assists in 52 games across a poor season for the defending champions.

The forward signed a new deal at Anfield in August last year, which runs until 2030. He’s also valued at €60m, meaning Liverpool are in a strong position when it comes to any negotiations. Tottenham, though, are keen and making plans behind the scenes.
