Liverpool is one of England’s most iconic football clubs, competing in the Premier League and European competitions like the UEFA Champions League. Known for its attacking style, legendary players, and passionate fanbase, Liverpool has a rich history of domestic league… Read More about LIVERPOOL

A stunning solo goal grabbed the headlines on Monday night. But what came after the final whistle caught Anfield completely off guard. Liverpool news this week has been shaped by what Alexander Isak said following Sweden’s 3-1 friendly loss to Norway.

Alexander Isak admits to feeling “disconnected” from the club

As reported by The Mirror, Alexander Isak was asked about Arne Slot’s dismissal after his goal off the bench. His reply was calm and short. But it said plenty. “I’ve kind of disconnected from Liverpool now that I’m here (with Sweden),” he admitted.“It’s always sad when a coach has to leave. That’s usually the first position to change when things go badly. But as I said, I don’t know much about what has happened or will happen. I wish him all the best.”

Those words land very differently when they come from a £125 million striker. He was not demanding a move. He was not firing shots at the club. But “disconnected” is still a strange word to use about your club.

A debut season to forget, but the talent is undeniable

Alexander Isak broke his leg in December and did not play again until April. As reported by FourFourTwo, his shots per game dropped from 2.9 at Newcastle to just 1.2 in a red shirt. His returns by the end of the season are concerning for a striker who broke the British transfer fee record. For context, he scored 27 goals for the Magpies just the season before.

Competitions Matches Starts Goals Assists

Premier League 14 8 3 1

EFL Cup 1 1 1 0

UCL 7 4 0 0

The big summer outlay never paid off overall either. As reported by Yahoo Sport, Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike cost over £300 million combined. Ekitike ruptured his Achilles in the Champions League. Wirtz took months to adjust to English football. The front line that was meant to scare every defence in the Premier League never really got off the ground.

Sports Illustrated reported that Isak also missed pre-season due to his long transfer saga at Newcastle. He was behind from the very start. Then just as he looked sharp again, the broken leg struck. The ability has never been the issue. His time at St. James’ Park showed he is one of the best strikers in Europe when fit. The question now is whether his body can hold up for a full campaign.

Can Iraola get the best out of Alexander Isak?

As reported by Football365, Andoni Iraola has picked Liverpool over Bayer Leverkusen following Slot’s exit. The Spaniard worked wonders at Bournemouth, taking the Cherries from mid-table to European football. The early signs suggest he is the right fit.

Still, he steps into a tricky spot. Alexander Isak is the Reds’ biggest asset on paper. The pace, the technique, the eye for goal, none of that has gone away. But getting the best out of him has already proved beyond one Liverpool manager. That is the job Iraola now inherits.

The club is also in a period of real change. Salah, Robertson, and Konate are all gone. A fifth-place finish in the Premier League left a lot of questions unanswered. Iraola needs to bring answers quickly, and the Swedish striker needs to be a big part of them.

The word “disconnected” will fade soon enough. But for now, it says everything about a club that is changing fast and hoping the hard part is behind them.
