Chelsea could get another chance to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan this summer, according to reports in the Italian media.

The Frenchman, who has been capped 39 times by his country, is once again unsettled at the San Siro following recent events.

Milan failed to qualify for the Champions League and then sacked head coach Max Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare.

The pair were integral in persuading Maignan to sign a new contract back in January, and their departures have left the keeper weighing up his options.

Chelsea are still in the market for a new keeper

Based on recent reports, it does look like manager Xabi Alonso is looking to bring in a new No.1. Earlier this week, it was suggested that the Blues had a €50 (£43m) offer rejected for Roma shot-stopper Mile Svilar.

At the moment, there is no indication that the Blues have revived their interest in Maignan, who was pursued exactly 12 months ago. However, the French international is clearly encouraging offers.

Plenty of eyes will be on Penders’ return

Belgian keeper Mike Penders had an impressive loan spell with sister club Strasbourg last season, and there is an expectation that he will take up a place in Alonso’s first-team squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Most believe the 20-year-old will replace Filip Jorgensen as no.2, with the Dane having asked to leave the club, but there is an opportunity for Penders to take the no.1 spot if Alonso doesn’t rate Robert Sanchez.

In that scenario, there wouldn’t be a need to recruit Maignan or spend big on the goalkeeping department. Of course, fans would be sceptical about a young keeper taking the gloves, given that many feel there is a need for a more experienced option.
