Former Aston Villa and England striker Emile Heskey has warned Morgan Rogers to carefully consider his future amid increasing speculation linking the Aston Villa star with a high-profile summer move to Arsenal.
Rogers has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most sought-after young talents following a breakthrough campaign at Villa Park, with reports suggesting Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring the versatile attacker ahead of the transfer window.
The midfielder has enjoyed a remarkable rise under Unai Emery, developing into one of Villa’s most influential performers and earning widespread praise for his ability to operate in multiple attacking roles. His performances have naturally attracted interest from some of England’s biggest clubs, with Arsenal regularly mentioned as a potential destination.
However, Heskey believes Rogers should think carefully before leaving an environment where he has become a key figure. The former Villa forward has stressed the importance of regular playing time and continued development, warning that a move to a club with greater competition for places can sometimes slow a player’s progress.
According to Heskey, Rogers has flourished because he has been trusted with significant responsibility at Aston Villa. The former England international believes that maintaining that momentum should be a major factor in any decision the midfielder makes regarding his future
Speaking to Metro, Heskey said: “Would it be difficult to say no to Arsenal? Yes and no.
“You have to look at who is ahead of you in both teams. He’s top of the pile at Villa, he is the main man. If he goes to Arsenal, where would he be in that pecking order and does it suit the way he plays?”
Arteta has built a reputation for improving young players and integrating them into a highly structured tactical system, making Arsenal an attractive option for many emerging talents. Nevertheless, competition for places at the Emirates Stadium remains fierce, with established stars already occupying many of the attacking positions Rogers would be expected to challenge for.
From Aston Villa’s perspective, there is little appetite to sell one of their most promising assets. The club sees Rogers as an important part of Emery’s long-term plans and would likely demand a substantial fee should any club formally express interest.
Despite the transfer rumours, no official approach has been confirmed and Rogers remains fully focused on his future with Villa. However, with Arsenal continuing to be linked and the summer transfer window drawing closer, speculation is expected to intensify.
For now, Heskey’s message is clear: while the prospect of joining one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs may be appealing, Rogers must ensure that any move represents the right step for his development rather than simply the biggest opportunity on paper.
