Dusan Vlahovic leaves Juventus as contract talks break down
Dusan Vlahovic is set to leave Juventus at the end of June as a free agent, after both parties could not agree on wages. As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, the 26-year-old Serbian striker and the club have parted ways after contract renewal talks broke down completely. Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti had publicly backed Vlahovic to stay, warning the club that losing a striker of his profile would seriously hurt them.
As reported by Football.london,“You cannot play football without someone with his characteristics,” Spalletti said. “A strong, physical threat who scores goals.” Despite that strong support from his manager, the wage gap between Vlahovic and Juventus was simply too large to close. The Serbian scored 68 goals in 168 appearances for the club, and was recognised as Serie A’s best striker in 2024, as per Transfermarkt. Yet for all that output, he leaves Turin with just a single Coppa Italia to his name, which tells its own story about Juventus’s difficult years.

Why Arsenal’s Second Chance at Vlahovic Is Different ?
As reported by the Guardian, Arsenal were linked with Vlahovic in January 2022, when he was destroying defences at Fiorentina and had scored 41 goals in just a season and a half. The move never materialised, with the asking price proving too steep for the Gunners at the time. He went on to join Juventus for £66 million instead. Arsenal’s absence from the Champions League that season also worked against them, as top European strikers rarely choose clubs outside of the continent’s biggest stage.

Vlahovic brings a profile that Arteta’s squad does not have right now. At 6ft 3in, he is a real aerial threat who can hold up play under pressure, and that is something neither Gyokeres nor Havertz does on a regular basis. His numbers back that up too, with 68 goals at one of Serie A’s biggest clubs being a record that is hard to ignore.
Moreover, the latest Arsenal news suggests the club are looking at striker and winger signings this summer, and a free transfer for a player like Vlahovic would be a smart move for a side that wants to win big trophies. The only real hurdle left is wages, and how fast both sides can sit down and agree on a deal.
