Ruben Amorim Tipped For Shock Return To English Football As Premier League Club Weigh Up Appointment

Ex-Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim is in the running to replace Marco Silva at Fulham, according to reports.

Silva has ended his five-year tenure at Craven Cottage and he is expected to succeed Jose Mourinho at Benfica.

It leaves the Cottagers with a vacancy to fill, and TEAMtalk claim that Amorim is one of the candidates under consideration.

The 41-year-old was actually tipped to take the Benfica job instead of Silva, but he remains out of work five months after his departure from Old Trafford.

Amorim will have other offers

While his time with the Red Devils will not be remembered fondly, the Portuguese coach still has a good reputation on the continent, having guided Sporting Lisbon to three Liga Portugal titles in an era where Benfica and Porto have largely been dominant.

For that reason, Amorim won’t be short of offers, and it would be a surprise if he is interested in taking a job at a midtable Premier League team.

Fulham are being quite ambitious with their managerial targets. In addition to Amorim, TEAMtalk report that recently sacked Liverpool manager Arne Slot, Ex-Tottenham coach Thomas Frank, Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna, and Coventry City boss Frank Lampard are also in the frame.

Amorim’s departure has been hugely beneficial for Man Utd

While the club were not looking to sack the Portuguese, his public outbursts meant that Director of Football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada had no choice but to fire him.

In hindsight, the parting of ways has been a blessing for United. The appointment of Michael Carrick on an interim basis helped the team seal Champions League qualification, which was certainly not guaranteed to happen if Amorim stayed.

Securing Champions League football means United are in a position of strength to build a squad that is capable of competing right at the top of the Premier League table.
