Power rankings indicate Raiders have a chance to make the playoffs

Barry Sims is arguably the best Raiders UDFA ever. In 9 years with the Raiders (1999-2007) he started at the critical LT position for 8 years (LG the other year) and protected Rich Gannon’s blindside. Though he has essentially no stats as on offensive lineman and won no postseason honors, he has the highest AV per Pro Football Reference (71) of any Raiders UDFA.

Although a chronic foot injury hampered Sims throughout his career, he started all 16 games at LT for the Raiders 4 years and all 15 games he played in in 2001-2002 on the best two Raiders teams of the last 40 years. He played 12 seasons in the NFL, the last 3 with the 49ers.

After graduating from University of Utah, Sims played in the NFL Europe in 1999 and then when their season was over signed as a UDFA with the Raiders and became a starter before mid year. Sims was all-WAC at Utah and was inducted into the Scottish Claymores (NFL Europe) Hall of Fame. Sims was drafted in the NFL Europe draft in the 17th round by the Claymores but was passed on in the 1999 NFL draft.
