Chelsea news surrounding Zadok Yohanna is moving fast, with Brighton closing in on a verbal agreement and Newcastle submitting a bid for the highly rated Nigerian winger at AIK Solna.

Brighton and Newcastle lead early interest in Zadok Yohanna

As reported by TEAMtalk, Brighton were among the first clubs to identify Yohanna as a serious target. Their recruitment team moved early and have since progressed to the point of reaching a verbal agreement with AIK over a deal. Newcastle held talks over the winger, and Brentford, Crystal Palace and Sunderland have also registered interest.

As reported by the Goal, Yohanna lit up his debut AIK season with five goals and four assists, having arrived from the Ikon Allah academy just last year. Newcastle have not stepped back from the race. In fact, as reported by the Metro, they have submitted the highest bid so far, making them one of the most serious challengers to Brighton at this stage.

Chelsea and Man City enter the race through multi-club networks

Chelsea news took a new turn when BlueCo were credited with readying a formal proposal, though they currently sit behind both Brighton and Newcastle in the race. These multi-club networks have a strong track record of signing elite young talent ahead of the market, and Yohanna fits the profile they consistently target.

Tactically, he fits the wide forward role that both clubs value highly. He plays mainly from the right, cutting inside on his left foot to drive at defenders and find goal. That direct style has drawn early comparisons to the kind of winger both Chelsea and City have traditionally targeted in the transfer market. He also presses hard from the front and tracks back when needed, giving managers a player who works in and out of possession. At just 18, his best years are clearly still ahead, which makes him even more attractive to clubs that plan and recruit for the long term.

German interest has also emerged, with RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen both monitoring the situation. But AIK’s asking price of over £20 million has proven too steep for both Bundesliga clubs at this stage. That has left the door wide open for Premier League sides, who simply have deeper pockets when it comes to meeting AIK’s valuation.

AIK valuation opens the door for Premier League move

AIK are in no rush to sell this summer, and they will not look at any offer below £20 million. The Swedish club know exactly how much interest is out there, and they believe his price will only go up if he keeps performing at this level.

Chelsea news involving young attacking talent moves fast, and the race for Yohanna is already proving that point. Brighton hold a verbal agreement and Newcastle have tabled the highest offer, meaning both clubs currently hold a stronger position than Chelsea and City in the race for Yohanna’s signature.

At £20 million, AIK’s price tag is high for a player with just one senior season under his belt. But Chelsea and City do not pay for what a player has done, they pay for what he can become. Yohanna fits that brief perfectly, and both clubs want to move before the price goes even higher. If he keeps improving at this rate, this deal could turn out to be very smart football business by the end of the summer.
