Everton have made contact with Middlesbrough over signing Hayden Hackney this summer, but are said to be ‘miles off’ Boro ’s valuation of the star midfielder.
With just months left on his Boro contract, Hackney is attracting plenty of interest from a number of Premier League clubs this summer. Boro’s failure to win promotion is expected to signal the end of his time at the Riverside.
However, Boro have set a strong, hardline stance over any sale of the Championship Player of the Year. Officials have indicated that they will only sell if their valuation is met - with talk of £10m scoffed at.
Having previously not had any official approach, Everton officials are now understood to have reached out to Boro executives, as first reported by the Athletic. They’re the first club to officially approach Boro about signing the 24-year-old.
But suggestions that anything is progressing are believed to be wide of the mark, with Teesside Live told that the current valuations of the two clubs are miles off. Boro sources are insistent they won’t sell unless their asking price is met.

Hackney broke through into the Boro first team picture in October 2022, having risen through the ranks at his boyhood club since the age of nine.
He’s since made 154 appearances for Boro’s first-team, scoring 16 goals and getting 15 assists. His final Boro appearance came in the Championship play-off final where a distraught Hackney waved as he left the Wembley pitch following Boro’s defeat.
