Arsenal are the ‘only realistic option’ for Julián Álvarez at this moment in time, but he doesn’t want to move to London.
Cadena SER report that the operation taking Álvarez to Barcelona is currently absolutely stalled, and Arsenal would be a more realistic destination.
Arsenal the realistic choice
The website states that the saga around Julián Álvarez is likely to be the biggest story of the early summer. Barcelona want to sign him, but Atlético Madrid are resisting. The 26-year-old is also unlikely to try and force a move either.
That’s left matters at something of a stalemate, with journalist Pedro Fullana reporting that it is “absolutely stalled” for now. Atlético, for their part, believe the Argentine will remain with them next season.
According to intermediaries, speaking to Cadena SER, it’s not an easy situation. Instead, according to Fullana the ‘only realistic option’ on the table is Arsenal. But the problem there is that Álvarez ‘doesn’t want to go to London’ this summer.
He would prefer to play for Barcelona if he were to leave Atlético this summer. Therefore, the Gunners aren’t in his eyeline.
Gunners need to convince
Mikel Arteta’s side have been interested in a while. Various reports from around the world have indicated that he’s a top target for the summer transfer window.
Indeed, Sport Witness covered a report two days ago that Arsenal were preparing another big move after already being turned down.
Now it appears that money isn’t the problem, it’s convincing Julián Álvarez himself. He doesn’t appear all that keen on a return to the Premier League following his time at Manchester City.
Arsenal, though, are an attractive option. They’re Premier League champions, Champions League finalists and on the up under Mikel Arteta’s leadership. They have plenty to offer the Argentine, even if he isn’t overly convinced at this moment in time.
