Moretto: Arne Slot ‘never close’ to Milan – his intention after Liverpool sacking

Arne Slot was never close to becoming the AC Milan head coach and things will remain that way, Matteo Moretto reports.

Milan have already been linked with a list of names for the role of head coach. In fact, the first target on the list was believed to be Andoni Iraola, buthe turned down the chance to join the Rossoneri despite an in-person discussion.

He was waiting for Liverpool, a move that was made official today. In a sliding doors moment, that vacancy became available after Slot was sacked, leading to the Dutchman being mentioned asa candidate for the Rossoneri.

Slot not on the list

We even spoke to Farrell Keeling from Empire of the Kop about the possibility of the former Feyenoord boss making the jump to the San Siro, having won the title in the Netherlands in 2023-24 and then the Premier League with Liverpool in 2024-25.

On Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Moretto spoke about the links with Slot and revealed that he won’t be the next Milan manager. MilanNews transcribed his words.

“Arne Slot hasn’t been near the AC Milan dug out in recent days, despite rumours in the press. His intention is not to coach this summer. Slot will receive a severance package from Liverpool and will return to management later,” he said.
