Alongside Torres: Aston Villa frontrunners to sign 'perfect' Barcelona forward - report

Aston Villa are the frontrunners to seal a deal to sign Barcelona forward Roony Bardghji this summer, according to Sports Boom.

The Villans enjoyed a fine campaign as they finished fourth in the Premier League, while they also won the Europa League to end a thirty-year drought, helping Unai Emery establish himself as one of the best coaches in Europe.

Now he is keen to strengthen his squad even further to improve and ensure they are capable of competing at the top level once more, and they are looking at an exciting young attacking talent to do it.

Roony Bardghji

Bardghji, who has been described as 'perfect' by manager Hansi Flick, made the move to the Camp Nou last season and featured regularly, playing 28 times and registering two goals and two assists in the process.

Having signed him on a budget deal from FC Copenhagen, Barcelona are now considering letting him leave for a major profit, as they look to strengthen their attack following the arrival of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, while a bid for Julian Alvarez and Marcus Rashford has also been made.

The Catalan club have not set a definitive price tag that would see his exit get sanctioned, however, they are understood to have valued him at between €20-25m (£17.3-21.6m). While a loan move hasn't been ruled out, the preference is for a permanent sale to generate funds.

Villa are looking to strengthen their attack, with Jadon Sancho's loan move coming to an end and no agreement to sign him permanently in place, and they view his skillset and ability as being an ideal fit for the squad. The player would be more open to a loan move, while Barcelona would consider a sale that includes a buy-back clause too. Negotiations are expected to accelerate in the coming days.

Emery Would Love Bardghji

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery looks on

Emery has made a career out of getting the absolute maximum out of players he is coaching, and he tends to have a special relationship with maverick forwards.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Emi Buendia, and others have all found a new lease of life under the Spaniard's leadership and while Bardghji is still a young talent, he has the quality to have a serious impact too.

For around £20m, it's a bargain fee for a player with huge potential, and both he and Emery would fit each other like a glove. This could prove to be one of the signings of the summer.
