Bayern Munich are exploring a surprise move to sign Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, according to an exclusive report by David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The 17-year-old England youth international has emerged as a key target for the German champions as they look to reinforce their attacking options ahead of the new season.
Ngumoha is understood to be Bayern’s preferred candidate for the left flank, with interest driven by head coach Vincent Kompany and supported by the club’s hierarchy.
However, Bayern are yet to make formal contact with Liverpool.
Ngumoha’s rapid development at Anfield has not gone unnoticed.
The teenager made 29 appearances across all competitions during the 2025–26 campaign, registering two goals and one assist.
His breakthrough season played a significant role in Liverpool’s decision not to directly replace Luis Diaz when the Colombian winger completed a high-profile move to Bayern Munich last summer.
That deal underlined Bayern’s continued focus on Premier League talent, with the Bundesliga giants also having been linked with Cody Gakpo over time.
Now, Ngumoha appears to be the latest name on their radar as they aim to build a dynamic and youthful attacking unit.
Despite Bayern’s interest, Liverpool remain firm in their stance.
The club insist Ngumoha is not for sale, particularly after tying him down to his first professional contract in September, which runs until June 2028.
Rather than weakening their wide options, Liverpool are actively seeking to strengthen in that area during the upcoming transfer window.
One player under consideration is RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who was Al’so attracting attention from Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga champions are keen to bring the forward to Germany, setting up a potential transfer battle between the two clubs.
Ngumoha is currently training with Liverpool’s senior squad in Florida ahead of the upcoming World Cup, further highlighting the club’s belief in his long-term potential.
While he is not expected to feature in the tournament squad, his growing involvement at senior level signals a bright future, one that Bayern Munich are watching closely.
