Liverpool are facing a crucial test of their resolve this summer as Bayern Munich intensify their pursuit of teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha, despite the player having reportedly reached a full verbal agreement with the German champions.
The Reds are entering a new era under recently appointed manager Andoni Iraola, who has signed a two-year deal following the departure of Arne Slot.
With a demanding Premier League campaign on the horizon, Liverpool are expected to be active in the transfer market, both in terms of arrivals and potential exits.
At the centre of current speculation is 17-year-old Ngumoha, whose rapid rise has not gone unnoticed across Europe.
According to reports, Bayern Munich identified him as a priority target to strengthen their left-sided attack, with head coach Vincent Kompany personally approving the move after direct conversations with the player.
Sky Sports Germany claim that Bayern had even reached a complete agreement with Ngumoha’s camp last month.
However, in a significant twist, the proposed deal collapsed on Thursday, leaving Liverpool in a stronger position to retain one of their brightest young prospects.
The Athletic previously reported Bayern’s growing interest, but Liverpool have remained firm in their stance that Ngumoha is not for sale.
The winger, who signed his first professional contract in September running until 2028, made 29 appearances across all competitions during the 2025–26 season, contributing two goals and one assist.
His emergence played a key role in Liverpool’s decision not to replace Luis Diaz following his move to Bayern last summer.
Ngumoha is currently away with the England setup, continuing his development among elite talent, further underlining his long-term potential.
Liverpool’s focus remains on strengthening their attacking options rather than weakening them.
RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande has been identified as a key target, while other wide players are also under consideration.
As Bayern regroup following the collapse of negotiations, Liverpool will be determined to keep hold of Ngumoha and integrate him into Iraola’s plans for the future, signaling their intent to build around youth rather than lose it.
