As per latest news, Liverpool have officially appointed Andoni Iraola as their new manager. They are bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty that followed the exit of Arne Slot.
Liverpool bring in Andoni Iraola
When Arne Slot left Liverpool after finishing fifth in his second season, the club moved quickly to replace him. The Dutchman had delivered the 20th league title in his debut campaign during 2024-25. However, the club’s form went down in the following season.
With that the Anfield board made the tough call to part ways. What nobody expected was that the Premier League side would turn to Andoni Iraola. The 43-year-old coach had spent the previous two seasons quietly building one of the most tactically disciplined teams in England at AFC Bournemouth. His exit from the Cherries had already been confirmed before Liverpool made their move. The speed of the announcement suggests this deal had been in the works for some time.
As reported by the GOAL, Iraola was linked with Bayer Leverkusen earlier. This made the Reds’ decision to move for him ahead of the German side a huge sign of intent. The club acted quickly and the other interested parties just took notice.
Iraola himself made no attempt to hide how he felt about the opportunity. “I’m absolutely delighted. Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. It doesn’t take much to feel drawn to it,” he said in an official club statement. He added, “Liverpool is Liverpool.” Three words that said everything about what this moment meant to him.

What Iraola Brings to Anfield?
Iraola is not a manager who relies on star power or big names to get results. He builds from structure, pressing intensity, and collective discipline. At Bournemouth, he changed a newly promoted side into a genuine mid-table team capable of troubling the PL’s best teams.
His teams press high, move quickly, and defend with strong shape. These are the qualities that fit perfectly with the identity Liverpool have maintained since the Jurgen Klopp years.
Iraola played 510 career matches as a professional footballer. He spent the majority of his time at Athletic Club in Bilbao. He moved into management with Rayo Vallecano in Spain. There he earned huge respect before making the step to English football. At 43, he is still relatively young for a head coach at this level. But, he has the experience in the PL and the ability to develop players.
The Challenge Ahead For The New Manager
Taking charge of Liverpool is never an easy job. But, Iraola steps in at a demanding phase. The squad needs reshaping after a tough fifth-place finish. In addition, UCL football must be reclaimed as well. The new head coach’s arrival hints that the club’s ambitions remain firmly at the top end of the game. That said, the manager will be expected to build a team capable of challenging for the PL title in his very first season.
He speaks directly, carries genuine humility, and has already shown through his career that he is not afraid of pressure. Whether the new boss can justify that trust will surely be interesting to see during the 2026-27 English football season. Nonetheless, the Reds have taken a bold and huge decision for the better future of the club.
