"Behind the scenes": Spurs trying to sign another£240k/week Liverpool star who"wishes to leave"

Andy Robertson has been announced as a Tottenham signing, but reports from Holland claim that Cody Gakpo is another target for them.

After escaping relegation on the final day of the Premier League season, Spurs are targetting Gakpo in a bid to prevent another torrid campaign which saw them win just 10 games.

Robertson is a fine addition, particularly as arrives in London as a free signing, although his arrival will only come after the World Cup.

Gakpo is also set to take part at the tournament, but his future may now lie away from Anfield.

Latest Cody Gakpo transfer news suggests a transfer away from Liverpool

According to Dutch outlet Soccer News, it is “quite possible” that Gakpo’s “future lies elsewhere than at Liverpool” after a challenging season at Anfield.

The former PSV Eindhoven forward was the subject of a lot of criticism for his predictable performances. Gakpo became easy for defenders to read, scoring just seven Premier League goals in 36 appearances.

He provided five assists, but overall, he was unable to match his tally from the 2024-25 Premier League title season.

The report reads: “Arne Slot has since been sacked by Liverpool. The Dutchman is succeeded by Basque manager Andoni Iraola. It remains to be seen whether he sees potential in Gakpo as a left winger for Liverpool. Furthermore, our sources in England indicate that the attacker himself also wishes to leave.

“Tottenham Hotspur has a serious interest in Gakpo. They intend to try to pry the Dutchman away from Liverpool in the coming period. With the new project under manager Roberto De Zerbi, they hope to convince him to make the move to London.

“Behind the scenes, Tottenham is working on a plan to convince the attacker and Liverpool in the coming period. In addition to the Spurs, several other clubs from England, Spain, and Germany are reportedly interested in the player from Eindhoven.”

Gakpo has not been in fine form this season, but Liverpool are already set to sign at least two new wingers to replace Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah – the former was not replaced last summer. If Gakpo were to leave, it would mean a third winger would be required.
