Texas basketball will face Louisville in the 2026 SEC/ACC Challenge

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas men's basketball's 2026-27 schedule continues to take shape, as the Southeastern and Atlantic Coast Conferences in conjunction with ESPN announced the matchups and dates for the 2026 SEC/ACC Challenge on Friday morning.

The Longhorns will play at Louisville on Tuesday, Dec. 1 in the KFC Yum! Center.

Tipoff times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date, however, all of the SEC/ACC challenge contests will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.

Last season, Texas faced Virginia in the SEC/ACC challenge, falling 88-69 to the Cavaliers in Austin on Dec. 3. This marks the fourth season of the SEC/ACC challenge and the third year that the Longhorns have participated. Texas registered a 63-59 win at NC State on Dec. 4, 2024.

This season's game will be the seventh meeting between Texas and Louisville in men's basketball and first since the 2023-24 season.

The Cardinals own a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to a 76-60 Louisville victory on Dec. 15, 1961 in Louisville in the opening round of the Bluegrass Tournament. In the most recent matchup between the two schools (Nov. 19, 2023), Texas posted an 81-80 victory in the semifinals of the Saatva Empire Classic in Madison Square Garden (New York, N.Y.), as Max Abmas' jumper with .4 seconds left gave the Longhorns the win.

Texas basketball is already scheduled to play a neutral-site game against Miami in Houston – and are trying to find an opponent for a neutral-site game in San Antonio at Frost Bank Center.

"We try to find balanced opportunities for our schedule," said head coach Sean Miller. "At one point, we had an agreement to play Ohio State in San Antonio and that fell through. We're still trying to get one where the Spurs play."

The two neutral-site games would add to an already impressive non-conference schedule.

Texas will also take part in the Rady Children's Invitational along with Georgetown, Saint Mary's and UCLA at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on the campus of the University of San Diego on November 26-27. Each day will feature two games, with the championship and third-place contests on November 27. Matchups, tip-off times and television information will be announced at a later date.

Miller also announced preseason scrimmages against Arizona State at Moody Center and a return scrimmage against SMU in Dallas, which will be closed scrimmages. Texas will have an open scrimmage against St. John's at Madison Square Garden on the weekend of October 23.

"The thing with scheduling is you have to really look at it as a big picture and what conference you are in," Miller said.

After sending 14 teams to the 2025 NCAA Tournament, the Southeastern Conference sent 10 programs to the Big Dance last year.

"All of us have a good sense how strong our conference will be. When I look at scheduling, I start with the 18 games that we play in the SEC. Nine home and nine road games. Those are unapologetic. We have plenty of opportunities to go on a win streak that can take your season on an incline and you never look back – and you can go on a losing streak. We experienced that this year. There were plenty of teams who were good enough to win games in the NCAA Tournament, who had losing streaks in conference, such as ourselves."
