Former Chelsea star Gary Cahill believes one current Blues star has the capability to hit the levels set by club icon Eden Hazard in the future.
Brazilian teenager Estevao joined Chelsea in the 2025 summer window from Palmeiras after competition amid multiple European clubs. He joined the Blues in a deal that could end up being worth £50 million in the future.
Estevao played 36 games for the Blues this season. He scored 8 goals and provided 4 assists in those appearances. The teenage star, unfortunately, suffered an injury towards the end of the season that will see him miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Brazil.
Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill spoke highly about the Blues winger, when asked about his potential, he said (via GOAL):
“I've been at the Bridge a few times this season and the fans can't get enough of him. He's one of those players where you can see the fans on the edge of their seat when he picks the ball up, which is what fans pay the money for, to come and see. In my day it was the likes of Hazard and Pedro, there's Willian, and the list goes on."
Cahill then added that Estevao could emulate the likes of Eden Hazard and others, where he could just provide a spark to the game in big moments. He said:
“It's those players that you're looking for to unlock situations, to create something out of the blue. You're waiting in these big moments, aren't you, for someone to unlock, someone to create something. He's somebody who can certainly produce that.
“And you look at his age, you'd imagine he's only going to get better and better. So it's exciting for the Chelsea fans. It's just a shame that he's taken a bit of an injury, but that’s part and parcel of the game. He is certainly a huge talent.”
Chelsea star Estevao provides positive injury update
Estevao, who picked up a hamstring injury in a Premier League game against Manchester United, provided a positive injury update. He claimed that he doesn't feel pain anymore and is ready to play. He said (via Evening Standard):
"I had an injury where I tore 80 per cent of my hamstring bicep femoris, Chelsea doctors wanted me to have surgery and even the owner said he wanted me to have surgery.
"Two weeks ago, I had a second MRI scan, and the doctor asked if I was in pain or feeling anything. He said: 'Yeah, it really shows.' He showed me the exam image and said he couldn't see any more of the injury.
“He said he doesn't know what happened, because in the timeframe we're in, it shouldn't be that well-structured like it is."
This update comes as a positive for Blues supporters as they can look forward to Estevao's return in the 2026/27 season.
