Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has claimed that he will hire Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp if he is elected next week.

In a series of promises that are unlikely to be kept by both Riquelme and his opponent, the long-serving Florentino Perez, Klopp's name has now been brought up ahead of the voting. So far, Ibrahima Konate has been promised as a new signing, Jose Mourinho as the new head coach, and a mystery €150M bid for a new Galactico.

Both candidates are making their manifestos clear ahead of the Real Madrid election. It has been claimed on Friday that the €150M signing would be Michael Olise.

However, that is despite Bayern Munich having no intention to sell and Perez having explicitly denied that it was the Frenchman he was speaking about when he offered some cryptic clues in a press conference.

Now, another unlikely promise has been made, this time by his opponent. Klopp has long stated that he doesn't want to return to management and that he is happy at the Red Bull Group, where he has taken a more backseat role.

Nevertheless, Enrique said: "The manager we want for our Real Madrid project is Jurgen Klopp. On Monday, if we win the elections, our director Raul will get in touch with Klopp."

Liverpool has appointed Andoni Iraola as its new head coach this week. He has been compared to Klopp in terms of his preferred style, and the German is a big fan.

"I didn’t know a lot about him [Iraola]," Klopp said in 2023. "The start of the season, obviously the results, if you don’t take a proper look at Bournemouth it can happen.

"But they turned it around, wow. That’s real coaching. He found a way to set this team up.

"They have a really good mix, they play football, they find direction in the right moments, they use Dom Solanke in a sensational way.

"The support he gets from the center, from the wings. The way they defend, really good, really compact."

Liverpool.com says: Real Madrid's presidential candidates can say whatever they like but Klopp won't be going there. He has made that clear a number of times.

Promising lots of things to earn votes is unlikely to convince anyone. The claims about Erling Haaland earlier in the week were ludicrous and this is on a similar level.
