Charles Barkley believes Knicks will sweep Spurs, but there’s a catch

The New York Knicks are looking to take a commanding 2-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs with Game 2 of the NBA Finals tipping off on Friday. And if you ask former NBA star Charles Barkley, if the Knicks succeed in doing so, this series will be over.

During a recent appearance on ESPN’s ‘Get Up,’ Barkley boldly predicted that if the Knicks win Game 2 of the NBA Finals, then they will sweep the Spurs.

“I’m going to stick with my original pick, Knicks in six,” Barkley said. “But I will tell you this … if the Knicks win tonight, they’re going to sweep the Spurs. Now that’s a big if, but if the Knicks win tonight, they’re definitely going to sweep the Spurs.”

The Spurs got off to a good start to Game 1, but the Knicks battled back, and it was Jalen Brunson’s clutch heroics that once again came through for them down the stretch. The Knicks ended the game on an 11-0 run, and it was a clutch 3-point shot in the corner from Brunson with less than two minutes to go that put the team ahead for good.

Brunson finished with a game-high 30 points in 37 minutes while shooting 12-of-31 from the field, 2-of-9 from the 3-point line and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. He also added three rebounds and two assists.

The Knicks are back in the NBA Finals for the first time in over two decades, with their last appearance coming in 1999. Coincidently, the ‘99 Finals were against the Spurs no less. The Knicks are obviously hoping for a better ending as they lost that series in five games.
