Philadelphia Eagles fans were intrigued when the team spent a sixth-round pick on Kyle McCord in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Eagles were only a few months removed from their Super Bowl 59 championship, and adding a quarterback, even that late in the draft, provided even more excitement.
The buzz surrounding McCord was that he could be the team's next Tanner McKee, aka a reliable depth piece that could move up the charts and become something for the team. That never happened, though. McCord was comically bad in his preseason appearances, and the Eagles only kept him around on the practice squad during his rookie year.
The Eagles officially released McCord earlier this year, and he signed with the Green Bay Packers not long after. Unfortunately for the former Ohio State and Syracuse product, he might not be long for Green Bay.
Kyle McCord might already be on his way out of Green Bay
John Sbisa of Lombardi Ave recently wrote about how McCord was likely the odd man out of the Packers' quarterback competition. As we know, the Packers have Jordan Love as their starting signal-caller and this offseason saw them sign Tyrod Taylor to replace Malik Willis as the backup.
Couldn't McCord be the third-stringer though? Not so fast, Sbisa writes. Sbisa said that the addition of Kyron Drones could be what ultimately kicks McCord out of the state of Wisconsin.
***"While the latter was the quieter move, a barely-noticed drop in the bucket of NFL transactions, it may be the one that forces McCord off the roster. The Packers won't carry three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster - at least, that is highly unlikely - and Drones is a better fit for the practice-squad spot. His skill set more closely aligns with organizational preferences,"***Sbisa wrote. "The Packers like their backup quarterbacks to have some athleticism. Willis was a prime example of that, one they replicated by signing Taylor. Even at 36, he still has wheels... McCord, on the other hand, is a traditional pocket passer. He put up big numbers through the air as a Syracuse senior, leading the FBS in passing yards, but his career rushing total sits at minus-142."
This isn't necessarily shocking to hear. McCord was a former sixth-round pick and, as Sbisa wrote, doesn't fit the type of quarterback the Packers typically like to have on their roster. It'd almost be more shocking at this point if he did stick around past roster cuts.

McCord might not be an Eagle anymore, but fans are still curious to see how his career turns out. So far, it's not looking great for him.
