Joe Dumars, executive vice president of basketball operations for the New Orleans Pelicans, continues to assemble his staff.
The Pelicans hired Amanda Green as executive director of strategy and analytics, the team announced Friday.
Green, who spent 11 years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, returns to the NBA after spending this past year as the associate general counsel at Vanderbilt University.
She spent four of her 12 years with the Thunder as vice president of team counsel and strategic alignment.
Vanderbilt athletic director Candice Storey Lee had this to say about Green when the school hired her last year.
“She’s helped shape championship environments from the bench to the boardroom and understands how successful organizations embrace opportunity by working together to maximize potential," Lee said on the school's website.
Green earned her bachelor's degree in economics from Duke in 2006 before obtaining her law degree from Georgetown in 2010.
During her time in Oklahoma City, she was instrumental in helping make sure one of the NBA’s most successful franchises complied with the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
Prior to her time with the Thunder, Green worked for the NBA as an intellectual property associate.
She got her start in the NBA as a basketball operations intern with the San Antonio Spurs. In her role there, she supported the front office with analytical and logistical date. She worked there with Sam Presti, who is now the general manager for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Green’s hiring is the second one the Pelicans have announced this week.
On Thursday, the Pels named Thomas Scott as general manager of the Laketown Squadron, the team’s G-League team. The Squadron will play this season in Kenner after spending the past five seasons in Birmingham.
Scott brings a wealth of experience in everything from basketball operations to player development to coaching and talent evaluation.
He was director of basketball operations for the BIG3, the professional 3-on-3 league founded by rapper and actor Ice Cube. His G League coaching experience includes stops with the Erie BayHawks, Cleveland Charge, South Bay Lakers, Mexico City Capitanes and G League Ignite.
It’s a return to New Orleans for Scott, whose NBA career began as an assistant video coordinator with the then-New Orleans Hornets. He also has had player development coaching roles with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers.
The Pelicans could announce hires to the medical staff as early as Monday, according to a source.
