COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Former NBA star Chris Webber spoke at Columbia College this evening as the featured speaker for the HIM Conference.
HIM stands for the Health Initiative for Men. The conference lets men connect with experts, share experiences, and discover practical tips to boost their well-being.
The former No. 1 overall pick in the 1993 NBA draft had a storied career, becoming a five-time NBA All-Star, a five-time All-NBA Team member, and the NBA Rookie of the Year.
Webber explained why it’s important for men to talk about their health.
“I’m a guy, and I know how hard it is to talk about health,” Webber said. “I just wanted to encourage guys to one, hold themselves accountable, take in as much information as possible, and then hopefully to communicate with others because it’s a lonely process sometimes, it’s a scary process sometimes.”
