Victor Wembanyama gets honest on costly turnover in Spurs Game 2 loss

Victor Wembanyama blames himself for ruining the Spurs in their Game 2 loss following his costly pass to Stephon Castle.

Victor Wembanyama shouldered the full responsibility of ruining the San Antonio Spurs' momentum for his costly turnover in the final seconds of Game 2 of the 2026 NBA Finals.

Speaking to the media after their 105-104 loss against the New York Knicks to go down to a miserable 0-2 series hole, Wembanyama admitted his fault for the faulty pass he took.

"I threw that one away, I messed up," he told reporters. "We didn't play great as a team. We needed to win that game. This game was ours.

"But at this point, it's done. Am I gonna regret it? Yes, of course. Am I gonna use that to fuel me and to fuel us in this game? Absolutely."

As Jalen Brunson missed the mid-range jumper with 13 seconds left in regulation, Wembanyama secured the board as the play continued. He attempted to push the ball up the court in transition but shockingly passed it to Stephon Castle.

Unfortunately, Castle was completely unaware and had his back turned. The ball bounced directly off Castle's back, ruining the Spurs' huge offensive possession to potentially close it out.

That error threw everything for the Spurs after coming back with a 14-point rally in the final frame. Brunson's free throw with over nine seconds left sealed the Knicks' massive Game 2 win.

Wembanyama delivered 29 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in Game 2, but San Antonio desperately needs more from him moving forward as they face pressure from New York for the rest of the series.

Now down 0-2, he and the Spurs will look to at least get a single win as the series shifts to New York for Games 3 and 4.
