Federico Chiesa is planning talks with new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola over his role next season, with the forward admitting he could be forced to leave.
Chiesa has played a total of 1,253 minutes over two seasons since joining Liverpool; at 28, it is far from the level he would have expected of his career.
But with a change in the dugout at Anfield there is uncertainty over where he fits in, with it clearly possible that Iraola views his place in the squad differently to Arne Slot.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chiesa admitted his future effectively hinges on his first conversations with Iraola – otherwise he intends to move on.

“I want to play. If I don’t find consistency in the Premier League, I’ll have to look elsewhere,” he explained.
“I barely played in my first year at Liverpool, and in the last one, very little.
“I’ll go on a training camp in the US, then I’ll talk to the club and the new manager, Iraola, and we’ll see.”
Chiesa revealed that Liverpool had blocked a proposed move to Juventus in January, with the Italy international “open to anything,” including a move to Como, but he would “like to return” to Turin.
“Juventus is always in my heart, and I’d like to return,” he said. “I’ve never discussed money with Juve, and I never will.”
Federico Chiesa: ‘Arne Slot told me I couldn’t leave’

Asked what has gone wrong for him at Liverpool, Chiesa replied: “The playing time. I’ve played very little since the start of 2026.
“I have a great relationship with Liverpool. In January, the club and Slot told me I couldn’t leave; they needed me, partly for numerical reasons.
“We were in a tight spot. I understood the situation and I was left smiling.
“Liverpool is always talked about; last year they helped me win the Premier League. And yet…”
Having been out of the Italy squad since Euro 2024 – partly due to injury – Chiesa’s prime motivation is earning the game time to secure his place back among the Azzurri.
“I want to get back to being a key player, but to do that I need to play more than a thousand minutes a season for my club,” he continued.
“Playing so little, I won’t get anywhere.”
Along with Juventus, Atalanta, AC Milan, Inter Milan and AS Roma have all been credited with an interest in Chiesa this summer.
