Spurs face impossible NBA Finals task after Knicks seize 2-0 lead

The San Antonio Spurs might need to rewrite NBA history after the New York Knicks escaped with a dramatic 105-104 victory in Game 2. Victor Wembanyama's late miscue has put the Spurs in a hole from which coming back seems impossible.

In the NBA Finals history, no team has ever rallied from a 2-0 Finals deficit after losing both opening games on its home floor. The series now shifts to New York, as Madison Square Garden is ready to welcome the Knicks for Games 3 and 4.

Interestingly, in both games, the Spurs were up by double digits before bowing down in the final moments. They were up by 14 at one point before ending up on the wrong side of a 105-95 result. In Game 2, they were up by as much as 12 points, but once again, the result landed against them.

Spurs' Victor Wembanyama was brilliant until the final moments

Victor Wembanyama looked far more like himself after his NBA Finals debut. He finished with 29 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks as he fueled the Spurs' fourth-quarter comeback effort.

Still, Game 2 will be remembered for the painful display he showed in the final minute of the game. During the transition, he passed the ball to Spurs guard Devin Vassell but he wasn't looking. The rival guard stationed nearby took advantage of the opportunity, leading to a big basket for the Knicks.

If that was not enough, Wembanyama also missed a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer but it ended up too strong. After the game, the Spurs forward took full responsibility.
