Wings vs. Sparks: Arike Ogunbowale’s big night leads Dallas past Los Angeles

The victory gave Dallas its best start in ten games since the team was called the Detroit Shock.

Ogunbowale scored a game-high 30 points as two of the highest-scoring offenses in the WNBA did battle. The Sparks entered the game ranked fifth at 87.9 points per game, while Dallas came in sixth, at 87.8. Ogunbowale led the Wings offense on 10-of-21 shooting from the field and 6-of-11 from the 3-point line.

Ogunbowale’s accounted for most of the Wings’ damage from beyond the arc as Dallas finished shooting 10-of-25 from the 3-point line. One of her 3-pointers came in the second quarter with a step-back 3-pointer near the logo to make the score 48-46 with 3:18 left in the first half.

Another came in the third quarter as Ogunbowale gave Dallas a 67-66 lead with her 3-pointer from the corner. Ogunbowale went 3-of-6 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc to score 10 points in the quarter and played the entire frame.

Ogunbowale also played the entire first quarter, and scored 10 points in the opener on 3-of-4 from the field, 2-of-3 from the 3-point line and 2-for-2 from the free throw line to keep Dallas in the game. The Wings ended the first trailing 28-24.

Ogunbowale logged 34:27 minutes as Dallas played without Odyssey Sims, who left the game in the second quarter due to a left ankle injury.

Despite the heavy workload, Ogunbowale made key plays near the end of the game. She hit a layup to extend the Dallas lead to 99-95 with 1:47 remaining in the fourth quarter. Then, Ogunbowwale reached the 30 point mark by going 1-of-2 at the free throw line to seal the 104-96 win over the Sparks.

The 30 points are a new season-high mark for Ogunbowale this year. She also grabbed six rebounds and dished six assists in the win, as the Wings piled up 30 assists on 41 made baskets against Los Angeles. Friday was her first 30-point game since she dropped 37 at the Chicago Sky on May 29 last year.
