Manchester City are reportedly looking to beat Liverpool to the signing of the highly-rated Leicester City youngster after missing out on Joshua Abe.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that the talented Joshua Abe had turned down several Premier League clubs to commit his long-term future to Liverpool.

According to James Pearce, sources familiar with the process stated that Joshua Abe was offered pro terms in excess of £50,000 per week from Premier League rivals to move away from Liverpool.

Ultimately, the player decided that the pathway available to him at Liverpool trumped all others and that his interests would be best served by staying put.

Abe, who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Liverpool’s youth setup, had attracted interest from Manchester City but with the youngster set to continue on Merseyside, the Manchester club have been forced to explore alternative options.

According to The Secret Scout, Manchester City’s academy recruitment team have turned their attention to Leicester City midfielder Darren Motsi.

The 15-year-old midfielder has already earned recognition as one of Leicester City’s standout academy talents. He is an England youth international and his technical ability and composure in posession are key attributes that have impressed the masses.

Liverpool were linked with pursuing a deal for Motsi but will now face strong competition from Manchester City.

The battle for emerging talent has become increasingly fierce between England’s top clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester City regularly competing for the country’s most promising young players.

While Motsi is still in the early stages of his development, the level of interest surrounding him underlines the potential he is believed to possess.

Whether Liverpool decide to continue to push for his signing remains to be seen, but Manchester City appear determined to move quickly following their failure to lure Abe away from Anfield.
