Miles Garrett set the NFL single season sack record last year with 23. He comes to the Rams very motivated and has his sights set on the all time record. A record that has lasted for 23 years. Bruce Smith recorded his 200th sack in his 2nd to last game played. He broke Reggie White's record that season of 198. Garrett is 75 sacks short of the all time mark. He has recorded the most sacks before turning 30 in history. That number is 124.5. He has played one game since turning 30 and had one sack in that game. He is exactly 1/2 a sack short of averaging 14 per season played for his career. He is under contract for 5 more seasons with the Rams, which would land him 4.5 short of Smith's record at 14 per year. He should get more opportunities on a Rams team that will be playing with leads way more often than he got in Cleveland. To date only 5 players have recorded at least the 75 sacks Garrett needs to break the record after turning 30. Smith got more than half his total after 30, with 108. The others are Kevin Greene 97.5, Chris Doleman 93, Reggie White 90 & Julius Peppers with 78.5. Personally I could see Garrett not only breaking 200, but also topping the single season mark of 23 while in horns.
What are your thoughts on Garrett's chances of breaking both these records?
