Federico Chiesa may have publicly expressed his desire to return to Juventus, but a new update has arrived that suggests that a reunion with the Serie A side appears far from straightforward at this stage.
The Italian has endured a frustrating two years at Anfield following his move from Juventus in the summer of 2024, struggling for first-team minutes and remaining on the fringes of the squad.
Due to these ongoing frustrations, as the transfer mill starts up again, Chiesa has dropped a hint on where he wants his football to be played in the coming years.
“Juventus is always in my heart and I would like to return” the winger declared.
Despite the Italian’s wishes, Juventus’ current transfer plans suggest there is little room for sentiment when it comes to a potential deal.
According to Calciomercato, Juventus are actively looking to strengthen the left-sided attacking role within their squad, but their priority is to sign a player capable of acting as cover rather than a guaranteed starter.
The club’s long-term project remains centered around Kenan Yildiz, who is viewed as the first-choice option in Federico Chiesa’s preferred area of the pitch.
As a result, Juventus are targeting a low-cost addition and currently view Liverpool’s reported €15million valuation of Chiesa as too expensive.
Even if negotiations were to begin, the Italian club would prefer to structure any deal differently to the terms Liverpool would likely seek.
Finances could also prove to be a significant obstacle. Chiesa would reportedly need to reduce his salary considerably if he were to secure a move back to Juventus, something that could complicate discussions further.
On top of that, Juventus aleady appear to have a more economical solution lined up.
Calciomercato go on to reveal that Jeremie Boga has impressed the club officials following his loan spell from Ligue 1 side OGC Nice and is currently the leading candidate to fill the role permanently.
Juventus have an agreement in place that would allow them to make the move permanent for just €4.8million, payable across two financial years.
Given the significant difference in cost between Boga and Chiesa, the club’s preference currently leans away from the Italian.
While Chiesa’s affection for Juventus and his desire to return may be genuine, the reality is that a transfer remains a long way from becoming a serious possibility.
Fow now, Juventus’ stance is clear. Chiesa’s return would require major compromises from all parties involved, and there are currently more affordable alternatives at the top of their shortlist.
