Liverpool will be heading into the new season slightly underpowered in attack as things stand.
We’ve lost Mohamed Salah on a free transfer while Federico Chiesa is expected to join him. Hugo Ekitike might not be fit until 2027 following an achilles injury - leaving Alexander Isak as the only available senior centre-forward in the ranks.
There is uncertainty over both Cody Gakpo and Rio Ngumoha meanwhile and there will be FIFA World Cup fatigue to factor in as well. The likes of Gakpo, Isak and Florian Wirtz won’t join in with preseason immediately as they will require a break.
That could well open the door for certain fringe and young players to impress new head coach Andoni Iraola. And one young forward who could benefit from the current lack of weight in attack is Lewis Koumas.
Lewis Koumas seeking to impress Iraola
The 19-year-old has enjoyed two seasons of senior football out on loan - clinching promotion to the Premier League with Hull City via the playoffs.
He rounded off a very satisfying few weekswith a first-ever goal for Wales last week in their 1-1 friendly draw with Ghana.
Following the game the Liverpool homegrown starlet was quizzed on his future - adding that he hopes to stand out in front of the new Anfield boss.
"I don't really think the plan changes for me," he told BBC Sport.
"It's just going to be how it's always been, to just keep my head down, keep working hard, and if I impress, I impress. So let's see what happens."
Lewis Koumas is delighted with his own development
Koumas has already played and scored for the Liverpool first team - back when Jurgen Klopp was in charge. He forged his own path on loan at Stoke City in 2024/25 before commencing a spell with Birmingham City at the start of last season.
That move didn’t go wellfor Koumas - who can play as a winger as well as a No9. Liverpool recalled the versatile forward before sending him to Hull - where other young players like Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho have also thrived.
"I'm really happy with the way my development's going,” he said.
"It's been a good two years. I think I've played nearly 110 games now so I'm just really happy with how it's going and just excited for what's next."
